When Martin was a high school freshman his dad asked him if he would like to attend Concordia High School and College, St. Paul, Minnesota. Recognizing such a move would destine him for a lifetime of church work, Martin responded, “Yes, but I would want to be a teacher.”
Since his school days Martin has served as a school teacher, principal, consultant, administrator, district mission executive, and as the first executive director of Open Arms Institute, an early childhood development organization. Without too much trouble it is easy to see the common thread of Martin’s work has been education and church building. His specialty with Early Childhood Professionals is connecting churches with childcare as a viable and dynamic form of ministry.
Martin has a Master’s degree in elementary education from Wayne State College, Nebraska. In 2010, Concordia University-Nebraska awarded him with an honorary Doctor of Letters for his work in Lutheran Christian education.
Martin and his wife, Jean Marie, live in Colorado. They have four children, Sandra, John, James, and Brian.
